It is a beautiful outdoor park and the animal exhibits are well-designed. Most of the exhibits are shady, so it is a great place to visit inclement weather. A great post ahead.

African Journey

Located in historic Druid Hill Park, the Maryland Zoo is one of America’s oldest zoos. It features a modern African safari, an Arctic exhibit, and a children’s petting farm and play area among other animal habitats.

During the months that the zoo’s elephant exhibit was under construction, Kevin Leary and his two young sons craned their necks to sneak peeks at the giant beasts. On Saturday, however, there was no need to squint or crouch low.

The new African Journey opened this spring. It is a hugely impressive and immersive exhibit featuring lions, giraffes, and elephants in completely new habitats. Visitors also can explore a new marsh aviary, watch otters jump across lily pads, and enter a cave.

Polar Bear Watch

The Baltimore Zoo, sometimes referred to as the City Zoo, is a 135-acre zoological park in historic Druid Hill Park. The Zoo’s mission is to inspire recreational and educational encounters with wildlife and nature. It also supports conservation programs including the breeding and rehabilitation of African black-footed penguins.

The Maryland Wilderness section of the zoo features an 8.5-acre children’s area. Its highlights include lilypads across an actual waterway, an underwater river otter tunnel, and a cave with plenty of small critters in terrariums.

Guests can interact with animals on a global wildlife safari ride, groom goats at the Farmyard, and see polar bears swim at the new Penguin Coast.

Chimp House

The zoo has plenty of kid-friendly activities. Watch penguins get their daily fill of fish at the Penguin Coast, feed an alpaca in the farmyard or groom a goat. You can also watch zoo keepers present animal-themed presentations throughout the day.

Chimpanzee Forest’s newest addition, baby chimp Maisie, is doing well. The female was born at the Oklahoma City Zoo and moved to Maryland in September. The zoo’s team is caring for her around the clock and ensures she has enough formula, sleep, and playtime to grow and strengthen her muscles.

The zoo is open year-round and hosts special seasonal events. Families can also feed giraffes, ride the Zephyr and learn to train animals.
